Volunteer Needs
The old saying is true—many hands make for light work! Thank you so much for your help on the campaign in whatever form that takes. It is a pleasure to watch as so many people with different backgrounds, interests, and skills use their talents to help us take our message of minimizing government and maximizing freedom to HD 40 voters. This is a page available only to our key supporters, like you, to see what current and ongoing volunteer needs we have.

GOTV Door Knocking
Planned Knocking
(updated 11.03.22)
In the final 10 days of the election cycle, our door knocking efforts turn to "get out the vote" doors instead of "persuasion" doors (meaning doors of likely supporters who need a nudge to vote). Here are some planned dates and times for knocking doors in these closing days of the campaign:
-
DONE: Saturday, October 29, 10:00 am - Village Park, 1651 4th Street, Altoona, Iowa
-
DONE: Monday, October 31, 3:30 pm and later - Adventureland Estates, Meadow Vista & Eagle Creek Estates (meet at south side of Altoona's UnityPoint Clinic lot (2720 8th St. SW))
-
DONE: Tuesday, November 1, 3:30 pm and later - We'll try some on-street parking this time. Meet near 1911 2nd Ave. SE, Altoona.
-
DONE: Wednesday, November 2, 2:00 pm and later - Various sites in Altoona. Call Jacob or Bill to meet up if interested.
-
DONE: Thursday, November 3, 2:00 pm and later - We'll launch from Ironwood Park to work various parts of Altoona.
-
Friday, November 4, 3:30 pm and later - We'll launch from Haines Park in Altoona (to finish Altoona and maybe start on Ankeny).
-
Saturday, November 5, 10:00 am - Somersby Park, 816 SW Springfield, Ankeny. Can we tackle all of Ankeny 13 & 14 in one day? We think so!
-
Monday, November 7 - Assuming we make it through our GOTV lists, Monday will be the easiest of door-to-door efforts--Doing a "lit drop" without knocking on doors. Time and location TBD.
Campaigns are dynamic efforts that need to roll with the circumstances, so these are all subject to change. Be sure to check with Jacob (712.539.8243) or Bill (515.201.3867) to confirm the time and location if you can join us for any part of these.
Some of you are accomplished door knockers who are comfortable going out on your own. We welcome that, too! If you need literature and want to tackle doors on your own timing, just let us know.
Yard Sign Installation
Final Yard Sign Push
We need a few "lightning crews" of individuals, couples, families, or other teams who can help install our regular-sized yard signs in small batches and on short notice as we close out the last week or so of the campaign. These will all be locations where the property owners have already agreed to have a sign. We need help especially in the Ankeny and Des Moines addresses of House District 40 (although Chad Johnson probably needs help in Altoona, too). If you can help with this, please let us know at bill@gustoff4iowa.com or by calling or texting Chad (515.681.9704), Jacob (712.539.8243), or Bill (515.201.3867).
Phone Calling Program
Absentee Ballot Chase
This will be an ongoing project. There have been thousands of absentee ballots sent to voters in House District 40, many of those by voters identified as supportive of our campaign. But, absentee ballots often don’t get returned, and we need those votes! Can you help by calling on these voters on what should be a generally friendly list? This should be some of the easiest calling for any campaign. If you can help, please let Jacob Schrader know as soon as possible by phone at (712) 539-8243 or by emailing us at bill@gustoff4iowa.com.
Final Sign Location Calls
We have had great success in getting interest in our yard signs and getting them out! But, we do have a dwindling number still on hand, and they do no good in a garage. We have a list of Republican supporting voters, and we need people willing to make calls to those on busy streets and intersections to see if we can get the last signs out. We'd love to have the problem of running out of signs! If you can help, please let Jacob Schrader know as soon as possible by phone at (712) 539-8243 or by emailing us at bill@gustoff4iowa.com.
Mailing Program
Letter & List Management
As you can imagine, it is hard to keep addresses current in today's mobile society. Every mailer we send out has some letters that get returned to us. We need someone to help locate current addresses for those folks, update them in our lists, and resend a letter to them. If you can help with this, please let us know at bill@gustoff4iowa.com or by calling Bill (515.201.3867)
Photo and Video Needs
Taking & Editing Photos
Are you good with a camera, or good at editing photos? There always seems to be a need for photos, and we can always use dedicated photographers at events, parades, and other functions. If you have a good eye for framing up a scene and a willingness to put that skill to use with a camera of any good quality (including smartphones these days), we can use your help. Let us know your interest and availability at bill@gustoff4iowa.com or by calling Jacob (712.539.8243) or Bill (515.201.3867)
Special Video Project
Bill has this crazy idea that involves bicycles, video, and volunteers! Can you help make it a reality? With the new legislative districts following the census and restricting, it seems everyone is struggling to learn the new boundaries. Well, what better way to get a real feel for the boundaries of HD 40 than by "Biking the Border with Bill"? The idea is for Bill to bike the boundaries of our new HD 40 (preferably with some companions along), and capture some of it on video. This will require some skill at shooting and editing video, and we want to hear from you if you have an interest! For this one, just texts or call Bill directly at 515.201.3867, or email him at bill@gustoff4iowa.com.
